Update: Alleged Hit-Run Driver Surrenders Months After Long Island Woman's Death

Months after a woman was struck by a car and left for dead on a busy Long Island roadway, the driver believed to be responsible is behind bars.

Steven Syrop, age 52, of Holtsville, surrendered to Suffolk County Police on Thursday, July 27, in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed Jennifer Bianco.

The 42-year-old, of Bay Shore, was found dead in a grassy area of Holtsville, along North Ocean Avenue near Fish Road, on Sunday morning, May 21.

Police determined that she had been struck sometime overnight by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Investigators later put out an alert for a blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck believed to be connected to Bianco’s death.

Syrop is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal incident. He was scheduled to be arraigned later Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
